Welcome to Sausalito

Founded in the 1830's, Sausalito has had a rich and colorful history as a port of call, a fishing enclave, a major shipbuilding venue, and of course as the nearest neighbor to San Francisco for almost one hundred years. Originally named Rancho Saucelito, the city encompasses only 2.2 square miles with almost one half square mile remaining submerged underneath the waters of the harbor. With a population of 7,061 residents, this small city on the edge of the Bay is famous for its scenic views and small community feel.

Sausalito literally has something for everyone in the realm of entertainment and activities. From outdoor pursuits like kayaking the San Francisco Bay, a bike ride across the Golden Gate Bridge, or hiking the Marin Headlands to shopping and dining in the downtown waterfront area to perusing fine art in the multitude of art galleries and exhibition spaces that have made Sausalito famous in artistic circles. Dining options ranging from fine dining restaurants to cafes for a snack and a cup of coffee are spread across the waterfront area of Sausalito. Whether you are looking for a light lunch or a cup of joe at the Sausalito Bakery & Cafe or a romantic dinner experience at Poggio Trattoria, you'll be pleasantly surprised at the variety and wealth of dining options available to you downtown. If you are looking for entertainment for the kids, look no further than the legendary local Bay Area Discovery Museum where you will find educational and entertaining exhibits ranging from music to visual arts to environmental programs. Sausalito a great place to call home. via sausalito.com
